Filekpaideftiki Etaireia runs Arsakeia –Tositseia Schools as a charitable, non profitable welfare foundation which has been in action for 170 years(since 1836) and offers education of high standards to 9.000 Greek pupils(initially only to girls, and since 1982 to boys as well). Recently it has moved towards expanding Arsakeia Schools in both Greece and abroad. Today, there are Arsakeia Schools in Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Ioannina and Tirana in Albania. Another Arsakeio in Thrace has been designed, while concerted efforts between the Cypriot government and Filekpaideftiki Etaireia are intended to found an Arsakeio School in Cyprus. Arsakeio School in Thrace will be based in Komotini. Dimokritrio University in Thrace has conceded a territory of approximately 100 acres in Komotini for the construction of the building. The drawings of the school complex have been made and the planning permission for the erection of the building is eagerly awaited. Simultaneously, efforts are being made to find sponsors to support Filekpaideftiki Etaireia at this stage. Arsakeio School in Thrace orientates itself into designing a European school which will provide its pupils not only with Greek but also with European- in the broader sense- education of high standards, as well as general cultivation of the personality of its pupils, given that Arsakeia Schools are Schools of Principles, which place particular emphasis on the moral tuition of their pupils, so that upon graduating, they are fully grown European citizens with spiritual and moral equipment to cope with the demands of the contemporary society. Arsakeio School in Komotini will be addressing children all over Thrace (Christians, Muslims, Pomacs) and neighbouring countries such as Bulgaria perhaps even Turkey. All the activities, offered by the Arsakeia Schools, will be involved with reasonable fees. The School will have the capacity to host approximately 600 pupils and all classes of the pre-primary, primary, middle and high schools will be included, starting with pre-primary and primary schools. It stands to reason the national purpose which is served with the construction of the Arsakeio School in the sensitive territory of Thrace and specifically in Komotini. Such a school is vital for the invigoration of the Greek culture in the region and the promotion and dissemination of the Greek education and cultural tradition in the South Balkans. |
