The Library of Tositseia-Arsakeia Schools in Ekali is situated next to the atrium and it covers an area of 210 m2. It is lending library and it is shared by the Primary, Secondary and Senior High Schools.

Target

The Library tries to achieve its aims by:

Expanding and preserving an important compilation of information which covers all fields of knowledge
  • Functioning as a means of information which actively takes part in the education and schooling of its pupils
  • Filing and publishing the lists containing its material, with a view to promoting itself and satisfying the needs of its users
  • Organizing events concerning books in order to promote reading and various cultural events- in collaboration with the headmasters and headmistresses of the school
  • Familiarizing and training its users about new technologies and the way to search information
  • Training its users to write bibliography and footnotes according to international standards
  • Serving specific public (researchers, university students, etc)

The Library of Tositseia-Arsakeia Schools in Ekali consists of the following compilations:

The number of printed documents exceeds 20.000 volumes in size and we have over 100 titles as far as audiovisual material is concerned.

Finally, there are 18 titles of periodicals such as National Geographic, Nea Estia, Sky and Telescope, Vita, Diavato etc. Their computerization is done by means of ABEKT 4.4 of EIE, which is a programme of library science.

Their classification is according to DEWEY system (Dewey Decimal Classification).

The services which are provided to our pupils can be best summed up as follows:

  • Access to the Library’s inventory: the search is completed by means of the library Science programme-catalogue of ABEKT 5,5 which is constantly updated and readily available to all its users
  • Access to electronic data basis and sources of information through the Internet
  • Photocopier which helps pupils with their projects
  • Use of audiovisual material, such as CD-ROMs, sliders, videos, etc
  • Organization of events, book exhibitions, etc
  • Tours
  • Book loans
  • Membership cards for all its pupils

The Library is in operation throughout the school year. Apart from its information material, the rare books and magazines (which are available only on the premises) the rest of its material is available to its pupils and teachers for 15 days.

Each pupil can borrow 2 books at a time. Finally, the Library can photocopy any material on request.

The first floor of the Academy building houses the Library of Arsakeia Schools in Psychiko and covers an area of 350 acres.

All schools in Psychiko share the same library whose main target is:

To contribute effectively to the Schools’ programme and satisfy the needs of our pupils, teachers, the administrative research and technical staff of Filekpaideftiki Etaireia as far as data and research is concerned
  • To serve specific reading public (researchers, university students, etc)
  • To acquaint its users with new technologies
The library consists of the following sections:

The Reading Room
It is the area where visitors to the library can read and make use of the printed material. In this section one can also find books containing data such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, etc as well as books on History, Philosophy and Literature(both domestic and overseas). 

The Information and Lending Section
In this section, which is adjacent to the Reading Room, one can find the main area of the Library which is essential for borrowing books and generally speaking for the use of the whole Library.

e-Library

This section is equipped with P/C for public use. It consists of CD-ROMs, CDs, records, cassettes, videos, tapes for individual or group use. Users also have permanent access to the Internet via the Library’s six terminals.

The Library possesses a variety of scientific, school and children’s writings, magazines, cassettes, records, videotapes, CD-ROMs. In particular, the Library has:

The processing of the Library’s material rests on international standards. Computerization is supported by the ABEKT system of EIE. Classification is done in AACR2 (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules) Codes.

The indexing of the subjects depends on

  1. The subject headings of the National Library and
  2. The Library of Congress Subject Headings
The classification is computed with DEWEY (Dewey Decimal Classification) and the areas covered are the following:

Lending a book

This is a lending library which can deliver all its material except rare books, cassettes, videotapes, CD-ROM and magazines which are available only for the Schools’ needs.

Lending Conditions

Every interested party is entitled to two books for a two-week period. Magazines, dictionaries, encyclopedias and rare publications are on loan only to be photocopied on the Schools premises.
