Arsakeia Schools of Patras are already provided with a fully-equipped Science Laboratory in operation. This comprises an experimentation classroom, a preparation laboratory and a teachers’ office. The lab is equipped with all the necessary instruments and samples as well as consumable material so that students can practise in groups.
It is also equipped with personal computers connected to the Internet, a wall-projector and a printer for lesson presentations following the latest technology.
Starting from the school year 2009-2010, three new laboratories for Physics, Chemistry and Biology, a preparation laboratory for experimental practice and teachers’ offices will be operating at Arsakeia Schools of Patra.
These rooms will be provided with modern school laboratory equipment so that the students can work in groups carrying out experiments which will enable them to learn or confirm the basic laws of Nature in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Each workstation has built-in high and low voltage electricity sockets and offers individual use of a PC connected to the Internet.
The teacher’s workstation is fully-equipped with multi-media facilities (PC, projector, monitor, connection to the Internet and printer) so that their use is feasible during teaching sessions in accordance with the latest teaching methods.
Laboratory sessions are scheduled at the beginning of the school year by teachers in cooperation with the Coordinator of Science Subjects of Ph.E. and the person in charge of the school lab.
Lab equipment is renewed and updated every year, covering a wide range of experimental arrays, in addition to the ones requested by the Ministry of Education. This enables us to carry out laboratory activities which contribute to a better understanding of the lesson, in compliance with the National curriculum.
Laboratory activities may take place either in the form of presentation experiments conducted by the teacher or experiments conducted by the students themselves in groups of two or four.
The construction of these laboratories was made possible through the sponsoring of the President of the Centre of Education and Sciences, Mr Constantinos Demetriadis, inaugurating a very promising cooperation between Ph.E. and C.E.S.
