Laboratories of Physics, Chemistry and Biology operate at Tositseia – Arsakeia schools and are housed in special classrooms. These classrooms are specially designed and equipped in order to fulfill their purpose, that is to foster and promote academic and applied learning in the areas of knowledge which are set out in detail in the curriculum of the respective subjects.

The laboratories are fully equipped with instruments and compound, as well as consumable materials, enabling our students to work in groups. They also have computers with internet connection and a printer and projector for presentations using new technology.

A recent acquisition of our laboratories is a Multilogpro Data Logger, which is an autonomous system of simultaneous receiving, imaging and presenting of precise measurements on the computer screen and then, through the projector, to the whole class.

In the Physics laboratories experiments in Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Heat and Optics take place.

In the Biology laboratory students in pairs prepare and observe through microscopes compounds of plant and animal tissues. Furthermore, Biochemistry experiments are carried out.

The Chemistry laboratory houses experiments in organic and inorganic chemistry.

The purpose of a laboratory course is to introduce and train the students in the process of scientific observation and measurement. The experiments that are performed are either simple experiments/applications that the student is asked to describe, or experiments whose outcome is known theoretically in advance. Although it is highly desirable for the experiments to be carried out as carefully as possible and in the greatest detail, this is not an end in itself. The main concern is a. for each student to understand how he/she can measure a quantity in the best possible way and b. learn how to analyse a set of probably limited uncertainties, so as to interpret a well known natural phenomenon. Another main feature of the experiments performed is the visualization of issues the students know about only in theory. Thus, students become familiar with experimental methods and forms of data analysis. Consequently, both science in general and knowledge of the subjects are promoted, while a complete and systematic education is offered.

A qualified assistant, who is in charge of the laboratory, organizes the programme of the experiments, the use of the classrooms and helps during the performance of the experiments. Moreover, for each of the schools of Ekali, a science teacher is assigned by the Teachers’ Board as responsible for the laboratory.

The laboratories offer our students active learning. The lesson becomes more interesting, lively, effective and fun, while fostering students’ initiative, observation and sound judgment.
